This panorama of London, dated 1616, is an engraving by Claes Visscher. From a view point on the south bank, the image captures some of London's most important buildings including the Globe Theatre, built by the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, the company to which William Shakespeare belonged.

#Onthisday in 1871, the Royal Albert Hall was opened by Queen Victoria.
The Hall was originally to have been called the Central Hall of Arts and Sciences, but the name was changed to the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences by the Queen in memory of her husband consort, Prince Albert. During the opening ceremony, the Queen was too overcome by emotion to speak and Edward VII, then Prince of Wales, declared the Hall open on her behalf.
This photographic print was created shortly after in 1875. http://bit.ly/2nxAULZ
